A New Pattern: Rhodes, the head scarf.

Rhodes was created on my holiday last August. if you have a hair like mine; very fine and has its own mind, you would know what impact wind or sweat has on your hair. The hair would be stuck on your scalp flat or go in all different directions. It’s such an unflattering look. For this reason, I often wear bandanas either under my hat or alone to preserve myself from becoming completely dishevelled. This habit also has another benefit. It has enabled me to wear my hat for a very long time as I can keep my hat clean. Some of my hats are more than 30 years old.

But at Rhoedes Island, I was sweating like a pig under a bandana. Having lived in Ireland for so long and never went on holiday in the middle of summer for more than decades, I completely forgot how hot it could be on a Mediterranean island in August. I have sun allergies so taking off hats or bandanas was not an option. I brought my best straw hat to wear but I don’t want to ruin it by sweating profusely inside the hat. But I sweat the same wearing bandanas alone. A thought occurred to me that a bandana can be like a straw hat. Could it help if it has holes for ventilation? That’s how Rhodes head scarf was born.

I’m releasing the pattern for free with the email subscriptions of my website (it ended as of 08th Oct). Here are some tutorials for making Rhodes. It’s a 50g (150m) one-ball project. There are two versions of Rhodes; Linen & sock yarn. It could be a leftover yarn buster.

If you have joined my mailing list, thank you! If you haven’t, scroll down to the bottom of the page, subscribe and grab a free pattern.

I have made a couple of video clips to help you along the way. Please see below. I hope you enjoy knitting Rhodes.
